C.M., K.C., LL.B
As a former public servant, lawyer, jurist and executive, the Honourable Howard Wetston, C.M., K.C., LL.B has a breadth of experience and expertise in competition law and policy, securities regulation, energy regulation and administrative law. He served as a senior public servant, both federally and provincially, a federal court judge and completed his parliamentary trifecta when he was appointed to the Upper Chamber as a Senator in 2016.
From 1993 to 1999, Hon. Wetston served as a judge on the Federal Court of Canada. He was appointed to the Senate of Canada in 2016 and retired from the Senate in early June 2022. In 2016, Hon. Wetston, who served as the Chair of the Ontario Securities Commission from 2010 to 2015, was awarded the Order of Canada for his significant contributions as a public servant, jurist and regulator.
Hon. Wetston holds a LL.B. from Dalhousie University and a B.Sc. from Mount Allison University and is a retired member of the Law Society of Ontario. He holds the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors and has also received special recognition as a Board Diversity Champion from Catalyst Canada Honours. Hon. Wetston is a Senior Fellow of the C.D. Howe Institute and previously served as a member of the Board of Directors of Toronto Hydro Corporation and Chair of the Board of Directors of Toronto Hydro Electric System Limited.
Hon. Wetston holds honorary doctorate degrees from Cape Breton University and Dalhousie University and he is a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
